John Richardson Hodges, fourth son of Richard Hodges, Esq., of Bandon, co. Cork, by his second wife Matilda Rebecca, daughter of John Crowe, Esq. of Macroom, co. Cork, and grandson of John Hodges, Esq, of Gurteen and Coofardoe, and Mary his wife, daughter of T. Richardson, Esq., whose ancestor, Colonel Ralph Hodges, emigrated from Gloucestershire to Ireland early in the sixteenth century, married April 26th, 1888, Mary Elizabeth Frances Eyre, elder daughter of the Rev. Henry Samuel Eyre of St. John's Wood, and on his marriage assumed by a Deed Poll (May 4th, 1888) the surname of Richardson-Eyre. And there are also Crowes in Ireland who have taken the name of Crowe-Eyre, and Elystans who have taken the name of Elystan Eyre -- these families having intermarried.
